Australia

Well the day has finally arrived, after a journey of six weeks aboard the Aurora, Mum and Ian have disembarked on the other side of the world, in Sydney, Australia.

They have stopped off along the way at many interesting places including Azores,ST Lucia,San Francisco, Honolulu and Papeete, Tahiti. Mum has taken this cruise before, soon after Dad retired, and had another booked, but sadly Dad became ill and they were never able to take it together.

Dads, dad, Grandad Freeman cruised with his sister to Australia about thirty years ago, to see her sons who had emigrated. They disembarked in Perth and then took a train all the way across Australia to Sydney, which took a week. I remember him being away for six months,as they then cruised back to the UK after their stay in Australia. They travelled one way on the Canberra and the other on the Oriana. It seemed a tremendous long time to me at the time,as I was very close to him.

This time she will be meeting up with my ‘little’ brother Jonathan, who emigrated many years ago, and has made a very successful new life for himself. He is General Manager of Markwell Foods, who incidently own the Findus brand, in Australia.
Hope there is no horsemeat in their burgers!

Well the family reunion is a few days away, as Jonathan is working in Brisbane at the moment, I hope it all goes well. Wish I could be there, maybe one of these days!
